Key components of the andragogical curriculum: towards the transformation of adult learning

Abstract

Andragogy, understood as the art and science of facilitating adult learning, proposes an educational approach distinct from and complementary to the pedagogical one. This article analyzes the essential principles and components for designing an effective andragogical curriculum, based on the theories of Malcolm Knowles and Felix Adam. It highlights the importance of self-direction, relevance, prior experience, and problem-solving orientation as pillars of adult learning. It also presents the systemic model of andragogical curriculum design, active methodologies, and the challenges of their application. The article concludes by showing evidence of its effectiveness in transferring skills to real-world contexts, especially in teacher training programs.
