Abstract

Edible mushrooms of the genus Pleurotus spp. are characterized by their easy growth in diverse substrates and climatic conditions; however, this also affects the growth of competing fungi that decrease crop productivity. For this reason, it was proposed to evaluate the efficiency of physical and chemical treatments in controlling crop-contaminating fungi at various stages of the process of obtaining a commercial strain of Pleurotus spp. The sterilization temperature of the substrate and culture medium, as well as the concentration of hypochlorite in the disinfection of carpophores, were evaluated. After evaluating the treatments, it was determined that an increase in the sterilization temperature of the culture medium, a combination of sterilization and UV irradiation applied to the substrate, and disinfection with 0.01% sodium hypochlorite were the appropriate conditions to control contaminating fungi during the trials.
