Dynamics of international trade in the auto parts sector of the department of Santander in the period 2011-2015.

Abstract

The production pattern of the auto parts chain in the department of Santander is focused on the manufacture of axle parts with differential, plates, presses, discs and cardan shafts. In 2015, the auto parts sector chain in the department of Santander contributed 2% to the country's total production, generated 4.23% of the jobs in this sector at the national level. Regarding the international trade of the auto parts sector, imports of the sector of the department of Santander originated in the United States with 28% of imports, followed by China with 20% of imports and Brazil with 12% of imports of the auto parts sector of the department of Santander in 2015. It is noteworthy that auto parts exports from the department of Santander have had a fall since 2012, having a negative variation in the period 2011-2015 of -68% mainly due to the transfer of the production of the company DANA-Transejes out of the department of Santander. Exports made during 2015 are directed towards the Ecuadorian market with 50% of Santander's auto parts sector exports and towards the member countries of the Pacific Alliance with 28.7% of exports. Transejes Transmisiones Homocinéticas de Colombia S.A. is the most representative exporter of the auto parts sector in the department with sales of US$ 3,362,255.
