Abstract

This study analyzes the relationship between heart rate and mood in young adults before and after a strength training session. The research was conducted with students aged 18 to 25 from the Faculty of Physical Education at the Universidad Pedagógica Nacional. The EVEA test was used to assess mood, and the Polar H10 monitor was employed to record resting heart rate (RHR) and maximum heart rate (MHR). A non-experimental, cross-sectional design with a quantitative approach was selected. The results of the study identify a predominant emotional state associated with better physical performance and a higher MHR after training. In contrast, emotions such as sadness or anxiety were related to lower performance and greater variability in heart rate.

The study highlights the importance of strength training not only for physical health but also as a tool to improve the emotional well-being of university students vulnerable to issues such as sedentary behavior, anxiety, and stress. It is concluded that mood influences the cardiovascular response to exercise, which may have implications for the planning of sports training and the overall well-being of this population.
