Efectos fisiológicos del consumo de bebidas energéticas durante el ejercicio sobre los sistemas orgánicos humanos e implicaciones en fisioterapia: una revisión de literatura

Introducción: El consumo de bebidas energéticas (BE) en poblaciones físicamente activas ha aumentado de forma sostenida, representando un fenómeno de salud pública con implicaciones fisiológicas complejas durante el ejercicio. El objetivo de esta investigación fue mapear la evidencia científica disponible sobre los efectos fisiológicos del consumo de BE durante el ejercicio en los sistemas orgánicos humanos y sus implicaciones para la valoración y prescripción del ejercicio en fisioterapia. Método: Se adoptó un diseño de revisión de literatura siguiendo las guías PRISMA-ScR y el marco PCC (Población, Concepto, Contexto). La búsqueda se realizó en PubMed/MEDLINE, Scopus, Web of Science, CINAHL, SciELO y Google Scholar entre enero de 2020 y mayo de 2026, con inclusión de 42 estudios. Resultados: Las BE producen efectos multisistémicos dosis-dependientes que involucran el sistema nervioso, cardiovascular, metabólico-endocrino, gastrointestinal, osteomuscular, genitourinario, hepático y psicológico. Los efectos ergogénicos se explican principalmente por antagonismo adenosinérgico de la cafeína, aunque se documentan riesgos significativos como prolongación del intervalo QTc, resistencia aguda a la insulina, deshidratación, hepatotoxicidad por niacina y dependencia funcional a la cafeína. Conclusión: El consumo de BE durante el ejercicio modifica parámetros cardiovasculares, neuromusculares, metabólicos y psicológicos que el fisioterapeuta utiliza en la evaluación clínica y la prescripción del ejercicio, por lo que su inclusión como variable clínica rutinaria en la valoración integral del paciente físicamente activo resulta indispensable.
