Abstract

Introduction: In Colombia, despite Constitutional Sentence C-055 of 2022, which decriminalizes abortion up to the 24th week of gestation, access barriers persist that perpetuate the practice of unsafe abortions. Case Report: A case is presented of a 33-year-old female patient who, after seeking a voluntary termination of pregnancy (VTP) at a pharmaceutical establishment, was subjected to irrational pharmacological management. This resulted in a septic abortion by the retention of an intrauterine foreign body Conclusion: Persistent barriers drive patients toward clandestine practices, increasing morbidity and mortality. It is imperative to strengthen family planning and education to eliminate stigma and ensure timely care.
