Terapias alternativas y complementarias utilizadas en pacientes renales: revisión de la literatura

Objetivo: Describir terapias complementarias y alternativas reportadas en pacientes con enfermedad renal y los efectos encontrados. Material y métodos: Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica en diversas bases de datos PubMed, Web of Science, RedAlyC, Scielo, Biblioteca Cochrane, y Scopus datos, Medline, Embase, y EBSCO, empleando palabras clave para localizar artículos de los últimos 10 años en inglés y español. Se clasificaron las terapias en 5 grupos: sistemas médicos completos, medicina cuerpo y mente, terapias biológicas, prácticas basadas en manipulación y en el cuerpo y terapias energéticas, por medio de matrices. Resultados: Se encontraron 13 artículos en total de terapias alternativas o complementarias utilizadas en pacientes con enfermedad renal: 3 en sistemas médicos, 2 en medicina de cuerpo y mente, 4 en terapias biológicas, y 4 en prácticas basadas en la manipulación de cuerpo y terapias energéticas. Conclusiones: De los 13 artículos encontrados 9 de ellos mostraron efectos positivos en el tratamiento directo de la enfermedad renal de los pacientes o en los síntomas, sin embargo, los grupos de estudios eran muy reducidos como para señalar que estos tratamientos realmente funcionan. Se encontraron 4 artículos enfocados no en el tratamiento directo de la enfermedad o sus síntomas sino en la mejora psicoemocional de los pacientes, en los que encontraron que el uso de terapias alternativas en conjunto con sus tratamientos ayudaba a la reducción de estrés y ansiedad.
