This study evaluates the effectiveness of DI-FAFS (two-stage) and TRI-FAFS (three-stage) systems for treating landfill leachate (LFL), comparing them with reactors such as rotating biological contactor (RBC), trickling filter (TF), and UASB. The results showed that TRI-FAFS achieved the highest COD removal efficiency (85%-95%), followed by DI-FAFS (70%-85%), due to its staged configuration, which enhances the degradation of recalcitrant compounds and reduces metabolic inhibition. COD loads ranged from 12–25 g/m²-day (RBC) to 18.65 kg/m³-day (UASB), under controlled pH (8–9) and temperature (18–34 °C) conditions.
