Objective: To analyze the physiological and metabolic response of a speed skater during a high-intensity training session using a single-case descriptive observational design. Methods: Body composition, heart rate (HR), rating of perceived exertion (RPE), lactate, glucose, urine specific gravity (USG), and body mass were assessed at different time points during the session: pre- and post-warm-up, post-test, and recovery. Results: In the athlete evaluated, HR showed marked cardiovascular activation during exercise, reaching peak values close to competitive effort, followed by rapid recovery. RPE increased to high values at the end of the test. Lactate showed a post-test increase consistent with high anaerobic contribution, whereas glucose showed a transient decrease during exercise with partial recovery afterward. USG and body mass reflected mild and reversible changes, consistent with an adequate hydration status. Conclusion: In this case, the training session generated physiological and metabolic responses consistent with the demands of speed skating. These findings apply exclusively to the athlete evaluated and highlight the usefulness of an integrated assessment for monitoring performance and recovery.
