Editorial Policy
Statement of Ethics and Malpractice
Section I: Publication
- By submitting an article to the journal Engineering, Sustainability and Society, the author agrees to this ethical publication and malpractice statement.
- All articles are subject to a review process by at least two international reviewers who are experts in the field of the submitted document.
- The criteria considered during the review process include quality, relevance, originality, innovation, pertinence, and language.
- The possible decisions made by the Editorial Board of Engineering, Sustainability and Society are acceptance, acceptance with modifications, or rejection.
- There is no guarantee that a reviewed article will be accepted.
- No articles will be rejected without being reviewed.
Section II: Authorship
- All articles submitted to the journal Engineering, Sustainability and Society must include a relevant list of references.
- The author must disclose any financial support received from institutions for conducting the work.
- The titles of all articles must be original. Plagiarism in any form and fraudulent data are not acceptable.
- The journal Engineering, Sustainability and Society does not publish articles that contain the same exact material as another journal.
Section III: Authors’ Responsibilities
- Authors must ensure that:
- their articles are original;
- their work has not been previously published elsewhere;
- all sources used in the creation of their work are properly cited;
- all data in the manuscripts are real and authentic;
- all authors (in case of co-authorship) have contributed significantly to the research.
- Authors are also required to:
- Participate in the peer review process;
- Provide retractions or corrections of errors;
- Report any errors they discover in their published articles.
- Authors must notify the Editors of any conflict of interest.
Section IV: Reviewers’ Responsibilities
- Reviews must be conducted objectively, fairly, and without personal criticism of the author.
- Comments on manuscripts must be treated confidentially.
- Reviewers must:
- Be academically qualified to review the article;
- Have no conflicts of interest regarding the research, the authors, research sponsors, companies, or institutions;
- Express their views clearly, with supporting arguments;
- Identify relevant published work not cited by the authors and/or any substantial similarity between the submitted manuscript and other published documents.
Section V: Editors’ Responsibilities
- Editors have full responsibility and authority to accept or reject an article.
- Editors are responsible for the content and overall quality of the publication.
- Editors must:
- Have no conflict of interest regarding articles they reject or accept;
- Ensure the quality of the manuscripts;
- Accept an article only when reasonably certain of its quality;
- Preserve reviewer anonymity;
- Ensure that all published documents conform to internationally accepted ethical guidelines;
- Promote the publication of corrections or retractions when errors are found.
- The Editor-in-Chief of Engineering, Sustainability and Society has the authority to make final decisions on the acceptance or rejection of a submitted manuscript after reviewing comments and consulting other editorial board members when appropriate. The Editor-in-Chief must not be biased against authors and must not have any conflicts of interest regarding the documents under review.
Section VI: Publication Ethics
The Editor-in-Chief, members of the Editorial Board, and members of the Advisory Board of the journal Engineering, Sustainability and Society commit to:
- Uphold publication ethics;
- Maintain high standards of intellectual and scientific quality, free from business and commercial interests;
- Protect and improve the peer review process;
- Publish corrections, clarifications, retractions, and apologies when necessary;
- Work closely with other editors;
- Ensure that plagiarism and fraudulent data are not tolerated.
