Abstract

Introduction: The evaluation of the lingual frenum of there is no homogeneity, nor universal clinical criteria for its diagnosis, are based on clinical and functional characteristics of the lingual frenulum, identified mainly by clinical observation, based on anatomical and functional criteria. Methods: A bibliographic search was carried out from June 2022 to March 2023 in the PubMed, Scielo and Scopus databases, including articles in Spanish and English published in the last 5 years that specifically dealt with the evaluation of lingual frenum in Infant, Newborn. Results: 73 bibliographical references were examined, 12 articles related to our study objective were selected: 4 reviews, 7 observational studies and 1 expert statement. Analysis And Discussion: There are several protocols for the evaluation of the lingual frenum in Infant, Newborn, although a mainly clinical process has been established in which tests are carried out on mobility, shape and appearance of the tongue, as well as functional assessments in breastfeeding. Conclusions: It is necessary to carry out a complete validation of the evaluation protocols of the lingual frenum in Spanish.
