This research analyzes the use of psychoactive substances as a complex public health problem that comprehensively affects people's lives, generating biological, psychological, social, and occupational disorders, with the loss of routines, roles, and meaningful activities. Through a bibliographic review of national and international scientific literature, the relationship between drug addiction, emotional dysregulation, and occupational performance was identified, as well as the effectiveness of innovative interventions such as mindfulness in reducing relapses, anxiety, and depression. The study raises the need to design occupational therapy strategies focused on the recovery of routines and roles, the promotion of meaningful activities, the strengthening of emotional regulation as a protective factor, and the integration of inclusive and human rights-based models that recognize people as active agents in their recovery process, engaging their families and communities to promote the reorganization of daily life, the construction of sustainable life projects, social reintegration, comprehensive well-being, and the reduction of psychoactive substance use.
