Use of Artificial Intelligence
The journal Investigación & Praxis en Ciencias Sociales permits the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support research, analysis, and manuscript preparation. However, the use of these tools must not replace human authorship, intellectual responsibility, or critical verification by the authors.
1. Authorship
Artificial intelligence tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of manuscripts. Authorship is exclusively reserved for natural persons who have made substantial intellectual contributions and assume ethical, academic, and legal responsibility for the content of the work.
2. Mandatory Disclosure of AI Use
When submitting a manuscript, authors must disclose whether they have used AI tools at any stage of their work, including information retrieval and organization, writing, data analysis, image generation or editing, translation, or copyediting.
The disclosure must indicate:
-
The name and version of the tool used, when available.
-
The purpose and scope of its use.
-
The sections or parts of the manuscript in which it was used.
The use of AI tools must be disclosed clearly and transparently, according to the nature and extent of their application.
3. Permitted Uses
The responsible use of AI tools is permitted, including tools for spelling and grammar correction, translation, data analysis, information organization, and image editing, provided that their use is consistent with academic integrity and disclosed when appropriate.
Authors must verify the results generated or suggested by these tools and ensure that their use does not compromise data accuracy, the validity of interpretations, the originality of the work, or respect for the rights of third parties.
4. Restricted and Prohibited Uses
AI tools must not be used to fabricate or falsify data, invent results, generate nonexistent bibliographic references, manipulate scientific evidence, or present claims as verified when they have not been checked by the authors.
The generation or modification of images, figures, charts, or other materials using AI must be disclosed whenever relevant to the scientific content of the manuscript. Such use must not mislead readers or deceptively alter the evidence presented.
The use of generative AI to prepare substantial portions of a manuscript must be subject to human supervision and the direct responsibility of the authors. Authors must verify, critically review, and fully assume responsibility for all content incorporated into their work.
AI-generated content must not be presented as the exclusive product of the authors' own intellectual work when doing so would conceal a significant contribution from these tools or violate the Journal's academic transparency requirements.
5. Verification and Authors' Responsibility
Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy, provenance, and validity of all manuscript content, including content generated or assisted by AI tools.
Authors must verify the authenticity of bibliographic references, the reliability of data, the validity of results, and the consistency between their claims and the sources consulted. The use of automated tools does not exempt authors from responsibility for errors, omissions, copyright infringements, or ethical violations.
6. Originality Screening
Manuscripts submitted to the Journal may be screened using text similarity detection tools, including Turnitin, in accordance with the editorial procedures of the University of Pamplona.
The Journal establishes a similarity score below 20% as a reference criterion. This percentage does not, by itself, constitute definitive proof of plagiarism or guarantee the originality of a manuscript. Results must be interpreted qualitatively, taking into account citations, bibliographic references, technical expressions, and other legitimate elements of the text.
When similarity levels requiring further review, indications of undisclosed AI-generated content, or potential academic irregularities are identified, the editorial team may request clarification, require revisions, temporarily suspend the evaluation process, or reject the manuscript, depending on the nature and severity of the case.
7. Disclosure in the Manuscript
When AI tools have been used substantially in preparing the work, authors are encouraged to include a section entitled "Declaration of the Use of Artificial Intelligence Tools" at the end of the manuscript, before the references.
This declaration must identify the tools used and briefly explain their purpose and scope. Where appropriate, the information may also be included in the Methods section or Acknowledgments, provided that it is clear, accessible, and sufficient for editors, reviewers, and readers.
If no AI tools were used in preparing the manuscript, authors may explicitly state this when requested by the Journal.
8. Editorial Responsibility and Policy Review
The Editorial Committee of the journal Investigación & Praxis en Ciencias Sociales reserves the right to request additional information about the use of AI tools, require clarifications or corrections, and reject manuscripts that violate this policy or compromise scientific and academic integrity.
The Journal may update these provisions in response to developments in artificial intelligence technologies, international recommendations on publication ethics, and applicable institutional regulations.
