Author Guidelines: Similarity Checking with Turnitin
1. Introduction:
The journal Investigación & Praxis en Ciencias Sociales uses Turnitin to check the originality of submitted manuscripts and maintain high standards of academic integrity. Authors must prepare their manuscripts in accordance with these guidelines.
2. Purpose of Similarity Checking:
To ensure that manuscripts demonstrate an acceptable level of originality, the journal establishes a recommended similarity threshold of 17%.
3. Recommendations for Authors:
- Pre-submission review: Review the manuscript before submission, ensuring that citations and references are used appropriately.
- Proper citation: Similarity may result from direct quotations, paraphrasing, or previously published works. Ensure that all sources are properly attributed.
- Preliminary checking tools: Use text similarity-checking tools to identify potential matches before submitting the manuscript.
- Similarity percentage: Keep the similarity index below 17%. If the percentage is higher, review and revise the sections identified in the report.
4. Editorial Process:
The editorial team will review the similarity report generated by Turnitin. Manuscripts exceeding 17% similarity will undergo a detailed assessment to determine the nature of the identified matches.
5. Commitment to Academic Integrity:
The journal appreciates authors' cooperation in ensuring the quality and originality of submitted manuscripts. For further inquiries, authors may contact the editorial team.
Important Notes:
- A similarity index above 17% does not automatically result in rejection; clarifications or revisions may be requested when necessary.
- Turnitin supports academic integrity but is not a tool for assessing scientific quality.
