Turnitin Tool

Author's Guide: Similarity Check with Turnitin

1. Introduction: At the Colombian Journal of Advanced Technologies (RCTA), we value academic originality and integrity. To maintain high standards in our publication, we employ the Turnitin tool to check the similarity of manuscripts. It is essential for authors to understand this process and ensure that their contributions meet the established criteria.

2. Purpose of Similarity Check: The primary goal of the similarity check with Turnitin is to ensure that manuscripts are original and do not exhibit an unacceptable level of similarity to other sources. A standard of 17% or lower is set to guarantee the authenticity and unique contribution of the content.

3. Steps for Authors:

  • Pre-submission Review: Before submitting their manuscript, authors should conduct a thorough review to avoid unintended similarities. This includes the proper use of citations and bibliographic references.

  • Awareness of Similarity: Authors should be aware that similarity can arise from various sources, such as direct quotes, paraphrasing, or similarities with previous works. Proper citation is crucial, ensuring the work is original.

  • Review with Text Tools: Before submission, authors are recommended to use text verification tools available in word processing platforms to conduct a preliminary review of similarity.

  • Percentage Consideration: Authors should strive to keep similarity below 17%. If similarity is higher, adjustments are expected, and authors should carefully review areas highlighted by Turnitin.

4. Editorial Process: During the editorial process, our team will review the similarity reports generated by Turnitin. Manuscripts exceeding the 17% threshold will be evaluated in greater detail.

5. Collaboration for Excellence: Author collaboration in maintaining low levels of similarity is essential to preserving the academic integrity of the journal. By working together, we can ensure the originality and unique contribution of each manuscript.

The RCTA journal appreciates the understanding and collaboration of the authors in this process. If additional questions arise about the similarity check, please contact the editorial team.

Note:

  • Similarity above 17% does not automatically imply rejection, but authors are expected to address and justify any additional similarity.
  • Turnitin is a tool to facilitate academic integrity and prevent plagiarism, not a measure of quality assessment.
