Turnitin tool

Author Guidelines: Similarity Check with Turnitin

  1. Introduction: The Journal of Engineering, Sustainability and Society promotes originality and academic ethics in its publications. To ensure high-quality standards, the Turnitin tool is used to detect similarities in manuscripts. It is important that authors understand this procedure and strive to meet the established requirements.
  2. Purpose of the Similarity Check: The main goal of using Turnitin is to ensure that manuscripts are original and do not show undue levels of similarity with other sources. The accepted similarity threshold is 17% or less, which ensures the authenticity and innovative contribution of each work.
  3. Recommendations for Authors:
  • Pre-submission Review: Before submitting their article, authors should carefully review it, ensuring proper citation and referencing to avoid unintentional matches.
  • Awareness of Similarity: Similarity can result from direct quotations, paraphrasing, or matches with previous works. Proper attribution of sources is therefore essential.
  • Use of Text Review Tools: Authors are encouraged to use similarity review features available in word processors to conduct a preliminary assessment before submission.
  • Consideration of the Percentage: Authors should ensure the similarity percentage does not exceed 17%. If the preliminary report shows a higher percentage, it is necessary to revise and improve the highlighted sections as indicated by Turnitin.
  1. Editorial Review: During the editorial stage, the team will review the Turnitin reports. Manuscripts exceeding the 17% threshold will undergo a more detailed evaluation to determine the nature of the matches.
  2. Collaboration for Excellence: Active participation by authors in controlling similarity is key to preserving the academic integrity of the journal. By following these recommendations, the originality and value of each manuscript are reinforced.

The Journal thanks authors for their cooperation in this process. For any additional questions regarding the similarity check, authors may contact the editorial team.

Note: A similarity percentage above 17% does not automatically lead to rejection of the manuscript, but authors will need to justify and correct any additional matches. Turnitin is a tool designed to support academic integrity and prevent plagiarism, and should not be interpreted as a measure of the quality of the work.
