Abstract

Objective: To identify the use of peak cough flow in swallowing assessment documented in scientific publications. Methods: A literature review was conducted between February and March 2024 in the PubMed, SciELO and Cochrane Library databases. Publications in Spanish and

English from the last 5 years reporting the use of the flow meter in the evaluation of swallowing were included. Results: A total of 7 articles were selected after the literature search. Conclusions: Measurement of peak cough flow is a simple and effective tool to prevent aspiration pneumonia, but it is crucial to perform it in conjunction with swallowing assessment.
