Abstract

Introduction: The purpose of this conference is to develop the theme around the questions: What are the neuromuscular events of swallowing that begin exclusively inside the mouth?, What is the order of intervention of the neuromusculature in swallowing?, Is it necessary to observe and treat only the events that occur in the mouth, pharynx and esophagus to study and treat swallowing?, What is the role of the V pair in swallowing? What derivations would there be to demonstrate that this sequence of bucco-pharyngo-esophageal neuromuscular events and if these are not unique but are promoted by other muscle groups that are outside the digestive tract? This is a compilation of clinical findings since 1999, initially related to the sequence of neuromuscular events in swallowing by electromyography. It was possible to demonstrate the successive intervention of the Temporal, Masseter, and Digastric muscles in their anterior belly, through the placement of surface electrodes, bioelectronic equipment, and Biopack. On the other hand, the fixation points for the stability of the structures in the swallowing trigger were defined, analyzing the need for stability, as well as the structures involved in this process, subsequently the cranio-cervico-mandibular-lingual fixation points of stability were determined. From lateral and frontal radiographs, the stability points were traced, which gave rise to a triangular figure in basal and lateral views, which resulted in the standard measurements of the stability triangle according to biotypology, applicable in cephalometry and the organization of a swallowing cephalogram that can be applied to patients with different craniofacial biotypes. Finally, the standard measurement for mesofacial muscles was established. Research is currently focused on establishing angular and longitudinal measurements of the triangular geometric figure, and the search for more data is ongoing to establish standard measurements for parameters of normality and deviations in different body types.
