Abstract

Introduction: Communication as a cross-cutting axis of health promotion programs enables the development of actions aimed at improving people's quality of life in all its dimensions (health, social, cultural, emotional). Methods: The systematization of experiences as a research methodology allows for the reconstruction of intervention actions within communities and their reorganization based on the knowledge gained, achievements reached, and challenges remaining. Results: The process described here demonstrates how the possibilities for community intervention expand when health teams evaluate their health promotion actions based on the needs expressed by their communities, fostering a shift in their intervention paradigms and creating opportunities for local development. Analysis: Communication, understood as participation, becomes a determinant of health for older adults, since the consolidation of spaces for socio-cultural integration enables the population to engage in activities that promote the preservation of their language skills.Conclusions: Participation and recognition are fundamental actions in the development of health promotion programs during aging. Health communication has proven to be an effective strategy for this purpose within the care actions carried out through speech-language pathology.
