Older adults are considered to be women and men aged 60 years or older, according to the World Health Organization (WHO, 2015), which promotes healthy aging around a new concept of functional capacity that enables well-being in old age. The objective of this research was to verify the effect of a physical conditioning program on the physical fitness of older adults in the municipality of Saboyá and its relationship with quality of life. The methodological framework employed is quantitative, with a quasi-experimental and correlational design. The study aimed to compare an experimental group with a control group, using a purposive sample of 74 adults aged 60 years and older. The variables studied were physical fitness (Senior Fitness Test) and quality of life (SF-36), through the design of an intervention program consisting of two weekly sessions of 60 minutes each, totaling 12 weeks, with moderate-intensity guided physical activity.
Results: The experimental group showed statistically significant differences compared to the control group in physical capacities such as flexibility, strength, agility, endurance, as well as in quality of life dimensions including social functioning, vitality, emotional role, general health, and mental health.
Conclusion: The program led to an improvement in the quality of life of older adults in the experimental group; therefore, these benefits can be attributed to the physical activity intervention program.
