Abstract

The objective of the pilot study was to evaluate the plantar pressure of five university students, healthy adults between 24 and 40 years of age, using electronic baropodometry. Methods. A triaxial force platform was used to calculate and analyze the average foot pressure and classification according to Hernández Corvo while each subject walked. Results: The basic anthropometric characteristics of the sample were: age 29 ± 6.56 years, weight 63.2 ± 6.06 kg, height 1.66 ± 0.13 m, and BMI 29 ± 6.56.

These correspond to young adults; the rating for both feet was normal, the mean and SD for the left foot was 50.4 ± 0.03 and for the right foot was 50 ± 0.03; the mean plantar pressure for the left foot was 533 ± 107 kPa and for the right foot was 559 ± 52 kPa. In the classification assessment, 80% of the left feet were supinators and 20% were flat, while 100% of the right feet were supinators. Conclusion: The tools used for assessment and classification, such as the instrumented insoles for measuring plantar pressure of the foot, are optimal and adequate. Larger samples of the population need to be evaluated to determine patterns in the region, according to age, sex, and type of activity, for academic, public health, and clinical application purposes.
