Abstract

This article analyzes the relationship between the adoption of technologies associated with the Industry 4.0 Revolution and the innovative performance of manufacturing SMEs in Colombia. Through a quantitative, non-experimental, and correlational study, microdata from the Technological Innovation Development Survey (EDIT) conducted by DANE and the Annual Manufacturing Survey (EAM) were analyzed. For the statistical analysis, Spearman’s correlation coefficient was applied to measure the relationship between investment in technologies and the degree of innovation; a multinomial logistic regression was used to estimate the probability of belonging to innovation typologies; and the Levinsohn and Petrin method was employed to calculate Total Factor Productivity (TFP). The results show that technological adoption is positively and significantly associated with the probability of generating product and process innovations. It is concluded that strengthening dynamic capabilities enables SMEs to consolidate an intelligent, competitive, and sustainable industrial ecosystem.
