Children’s Narrative Discourse and Developmental Language Disorder: Advances and Challenges in Speech-Language Pathology

This review article analyzes children’s narrative discourse in those with Developmental Language Disorder, given its relevance for clinical assessment and intervention. A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, with searches in academic databases between 2019 and 2025, applying defined selection criteria. A total of 28 studies were included, showing advances in narrative assessment (macrostructure, microstructure, and pragmatics), as well as in intervention strategies and the use of inclusive technologies. The findings indicate that narrative discourse enables the characterization of linguistic profiles and supports clinical practice, although methodological and standardization challenges remain. It is concluded that narrative analysis is a key tool for identifying and treating language difficulties, with a need for greater adaptation to regional contexts.
