Abstract

Self-care, healthy habits and lifestyles in institutionalized older adults require special attention to lead a quiet lifestyle, where they can enjoy their family and the things they like to do the most, taking into account the wear and tear physique characteristic of age; Therefore, this research is qualitative, descriptive, allows describing life experiences and giving them meaning. Taking as a sample 24 institutionalized older adults, distributed in 12 men and 12 women, where it is possible to carry out activities to assess relevant aspects of independent self-care, identifying their levels of functionality, to from there propose a promotion strategy taking into account the benefits of having adequate hygiene and personal hygiene, promotion and prevention of hearing care, healthy habits and lifestyles; that positively affect health and prevent possible diseases or infections, as well as awareness of the importance of stomatognathic functions through exercises and appropriate swallowing and chewing maneuvers, concluding that for the institutionalized elderly their habits and self-care routines pass to the background and their lifestyles calm down and slow down, so their participation is not as active as expected.
