Perceived uncertainty in caregivers of sick children

The present study identified the perceived uncertainty among caregivers of sick children aged 0–6 years who were admitted to the Empresa Social del Estado* San Juan de Dios in Pamplona, based on Merle Mishel’s theoretical model. The instrument used was developed by Merle Mishel, author of the Uncertainty in Illness Theory (1988), along with the Parents’ Perception of Uncertainty Scale (PPUS-FM). For the completion of this research, the instruments were applied to caregivers of sick children regardless of gender, educational level, or the illness of the person under care, provided they were of legal age according to Colombian legislation and admitted to the *Empresa Social del Estado Hospital San Juan de Dios in Pamplona during the first semester of 2012.
