Abstract

Within the study of work-related stress processes, the investigation of burnout syndrome (BOS) has emerged as a phenomenon detrimental to workers. Therapeutic approaches to BOS have been associated with physical activity, which has demonstrated potential positive effects on both psychological and physical health. However, studies have not consistently shown diversity in the activities included in these programs.

The objective of the present study was to analyze the effects of a multimodal physical activity program on stress levels (burnout syndrome) in SENA employees. A total of 52 adults participated in the study. The sample was divided into two groups: a control group (CG) and an experimental group (EG). Burnout syndrome impact was assessed using the Maslach Burnout Inventory, along with physical fitness components. A 12-week multimodal training program was implemented, aimed at reducing the negative effects of stress on workers through improvements in physical condition and psychological reinforcement (teamwork and resilience).

To verify the effects of the interventions, two-way MANOVAs were conducted for each variable evaluated, with group (EG vs. CG) and time (pretest vs. posttest) as factors, using repeated measures for the second factor. MANOVA indicated an interaction between time and group for emotional exhaustion and depersonalization. For functionality, an interaction between factors was observed for aerobic fitness.

Thus, the results of this study suggest that multimodal physical activity alone is not sufficient to reduce all aspects of burnout syndrome.
