Abstract

The village of El Diamante (Venecia, Cundinamarca) is mainly dedicated to coffee production. This activity generates a varied amount of waste, which constitutes a potential source of environmental pollution and a health risk for the population. The objective of this study was to establish, based on a systematic review, a protocol for obtaining a biocomposite from coffee cherry waste generated in the village of El Diamante. The protocol was established considering the principles of green chemistry. Initially, a diagnostic visit was made to the area, identifying the inadequate disposal of solid waste generated during coffee processing. The precariousness of the housing in the sector was also evident. Based on this, a systematic review of the scientific literature was carried out, which allowed for the development of an integrated protocol for obtaining the biocomposite. The estimated green chemistry index for the protocol was 80%, which represents a very good green approach. It is concluded that the established protocol can be a plausible strategy for the use of coffee waste generated, useful for the development of a biocomposite with potential application as concrete reinforcement for homes in the area, and whose application complies with most of the principles of green chemistry.
