Abstract

COVID-19 is an infectious disease that led to the implementation of measures such as social isolation in numerous countries, including Colombia. This isolation, extended for approximately 12 months, generated environmental deprivation in developing children by limiting social experiences, games in the environment. This study aimed to assess the impact of Covid-19 isolation on the language development of children born during this period. The methodology focused on a cross-sectional correlational study in which the MacArthur-Bates Communicative Development Inventory was applied to parents and/or caregivers of children along with a structured sociodemographic interview. In the results of the research, a significant percentage showed poor expressive vocabulary, alteration in the production of sentences and impairments in the use of grammar, as expected for their age. Although there was no statistically significant difference between the crossed criteria, it can be stated that class differences, exposure to Cartagena popular culture of the majority of the sample and informal employment were aspects that influenced the study. Finally, it is concluded that isolation due to COVID-19 generated a series of implications in the language development of children born in this period.
