Determination of postural deformities in children aged 7 to 12 years

Abstract

Identifying acquired postural deformities in children aged 7 to 12 provides physical education teachers with valuable information and yields data of significance to public health. The study aims to identify acquired deformities resulting from incorrect postural habits an objective driven by the prevalence of spinal conditions and the frequency of medical consultations for debilitating pain. Many of these conditions and pain issues stem largely from deformities affecting the feet, knees, or spine. A longitudinal, non-experimental design employing both qualitative and quantitative methods was adopted, utilizing interviews, observation, and measurements obtained through the Posture Test. The study involved 171 children aged 7 to 12, based on the premise that early childhood is the stage when such deformities are most likely to develop. The research spanned 14 months, from January 2024 to March 2025. The results highlight potential causes of these deformities and identify scoliosis, kyphosis, and kypholordosis as the most prevalent deformities within the study sample.
