Manuscripts submitted to the journal Engineering, Sustainability and Society are evaluated by external reviewers under the double-blind peer review system, ensuring anonymity for both authors and reviewers. The comments and recommendations provided by reviewers constitute a fundamental element in editorial decision-making and in strengthening the scientific quality of publications.

Reviewer Selection

Reviewers are selected according to criteria such as:
  • Academic and scientific expertise in the manuscript’s subject area.
  • Relevant research background and academic trajectory.
  • Technical capacity to conduct a rigorous evaluation.
  • Absence of conflicts of interest with the authors or the evaluated research.

Reviewer Responsibilities

Reviewers who agree to participate in the editorial process are expected to:
  • Declare any potential conflicts of interest before starting the evaluation.
  • Respond promptly to review invitations.
  • Submit the review report within the established deadline.
  • Provide objective, clear, and well-founded comments.
  • Report any possible ethical irregularities identified in the manuscript.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all information related to the review process.

Ethics and Transparency

The journal follows the ethical principles and recommendations established by COPE . Reviewers are encouraged to consult the COPE Ethical Guidelines for Peer Reviewers during the evaluation process.

Timeliness and Communication

Reviewers are expected to:
  • Accept or decline review invitations promptly.
  • Comply with the established review deadlines.
  • Suggest alternative reviewers when unable to complete the review.

Confidentiality

All information associated with the manuscript and the review process must remain strictly confidential. Evaluated documents must not be shared, distributed, or used for purposes other than the editorial review process.

Possible Ethical Violations

Reviewers must inform the editorial team of any suspicion of plagiarism, duplicate publication, data manipulation, or other conduct contrary to scientific ethics.

Evaluation Criteria

Manuscripts are evaluated considering aspects related to:
