Abstract

Enriching the cultural diversity of present-day society is considered a threat. The media generates the image of "otherness" through local differentiation, meaning the social imaginary formed through the media has created a clear polarization between "them" and "us." In this case, the West and everything non-Western. Terrorism, fanaticism, and sexism are associated with Islam, and all news and images are specifically directed towards negative and problematic interpretations of it. The differentiation established in the social imaginary signifies superiority and rejection of anything that does not fit the model of social construction. Overall, since 2015, this phenomenon has become particularly significant due to the escalation of immigration and terrorist attacks.
