Artificial Intelligence Use

The Revista Colombiana de Tecnologías de Avanzada (RCTA) allows the responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools as support in the research and manuscript preparation process. However, the use of such tools must be transparent and cannot replace authorship, intellectual responsibility, or critical verification by the authors.

1. Authorship
AI tools cannot appear as authors or co-authors. Authorship belongs exclusively to natural persons who assume the ethical, intellectual, and legal responsibility for the content of the manuscript.

2. Mandatory declaration of AI use
When submitting the manuscript, authors are required to declare whether they used AI tools at any stage of the work (information search, writing, data analysis, image generation or editing, translation, style revision, etc.). The declaration must specify: (a) the name and version of the tool(s) used; (b) the purpose and scope of their use; and (c) the section(s) of the manuscript in which they were applied.

3. Permitted uses
The use of non-generative AI tools (for example, spelling/grammar assistants, image enhancement software, data analysis tools) is permitted, provided that their use is declared and does not alter the integrity or truthfulness of the data or the interpretations made by the authors.

4. Restricted and prohibited uses
It is prohibited to use generative AI tools to draft substantive sections of the manuscript (introduction, methodology, results, discussion, conclusions) without the direct supervision and full responsibility of the authors. Likewise, the generation or manipulation of research data through AI that compromises the accuracy or reproducibility of the study is not allowed. Images, figures, or graphics created wholly or partially with AI must be explicitly reported and justified in the manuscript.

5. Verification and responsibility
Authors are responsible for verifying the accuracy, provenance of references, and validity of all content, including that generated or assisted by AI. They must ensure that there are no fabricated citations, invented data, or unverifiable results derived from the use of automated tools.

6. Originality check
All submitted manuscripts will be analyzed using Turnitin software (licensed by the Universidad de Pamplona). The maximum acceptable similarity percentage is below 20%. If this threshold is exceeded or if evidence of undeclared automated writing is detected, the editorial committee may request clarification, corrections, suspend the review process, or reject the manuscript.

7. In-text declaration
It is recommended to include a section titled “Declaration of use of artificial intelligence tools” at the end of the manuscript (before the references), in which the tools used and their purposes are briefly described. Alternatively, this information may be included in the Methods or Acknowledgments section, provided it is clear and accessible to reviewers and readers.

8. Editorial responsibility and policy review
The RCTA Editorial Committee reserves the right to request additional information about the use of AI, require corrections, reject works that contravene this policy, or update the rules as international publishing practices and recommendations evolve.
