Commitment, Knowledge Exchange, and Organizational Performance in Times of COVID-19: A Study of Service Companies in Bogotá

Abstract

The consequences of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic pose a threat to the global economy. Multiple sectors are uncertain if they will be able to meet their set goals or at least remain active in the medium and long term. At the business level, this means that managers must find new ways to identify whether employees are contributing to the achievement of established goals. Two elements that have proven to be particularly powerful in responding to these transformation processes are knowledge and commitment. Today, both knowledge and commitment are considered long-term investments and generators of competitive advantages, making their management essential for organizations to achieve their goals and objectives.

In this regard, the main objective of this article is to identify the influence of commitment and knowledge exchange on the performance of companies in the service sector in Bogotá during the COVID-19 pandemic. The approach used is quantitative, employing a Structural Equation Modeling system.

The results confirm that: 1) In environments with high levels of commitment, there is greater knowledge exchange; 2) knowledge exchange has a positive and significant impact on performance; and 3) high levels of organizational commitment positively and significantly affect organizational performance.
