The Role of Occupational Therapy in Older Adults with Cognitive Impairment through Multisensory Stimulation

The purpose of this paper is to review articles to raise awareness of the impact of Occupational Therapy through multisensory stimulation in older adults with cognitive impairment. This review will focus on the thematic axes of aging, multisensory stimulation and basic cognitive processes. The relevance of this task lies in the need to demonstrate how multisensory stimulation can be an effective tool within the Occupational Therapy intervention, contributing to maintaining or strengthening cognitive functions in older adults. In addition, this intervention not only favors functional performance in daily life activities and instrumental activities, but also enhances leisure and free time, key aspects for the quality of life of patients. Throughout the paper, an exhaustive analysis and a documentary comparison will be presented on the influence of this therapeutic strategy. Likewise, the phases of the research, the results obtained and the conclusions will be detailed, in order to provide a clear vision of the impact of Occupational Therapy in this specific context.
