Study of plastic waste generation in the town of Uyuni - Potosí - Bolivia

A study was conducted on plastic waste generation in the town of Uyuni, Bolivia. It was found that the average volume of plastic waste generated is 36.06 tons/year. In hotels and restaurants, 95% of plastics are polyethylene terephthalate. Per capita plastic waste generation in hotels was 66.43 g/day/tourist, in restaurants it was 19.81 g/day/tourist, and for a tourist on a three-day tour it was 177.8 g/day/tourist. The alternatives identified for plastic management, combined with the interest of the tourism services sector, NGO projects, and the participation of local residents, can minimize the consequences of plastic waste.
