Abstract

The purpose of this research was to recognize the ways in which women’s rights are violated in Colombia in the labor, social, political, economic, and family spheres, with the aim of informing and raising students’ awareness about this social problem. The general objective was to determine which women’s rights are most frequently violated in these contexts, based on the identification of affected rights, the analysis of cases of abuse or rights violations, and the presentation of the results obtained. Methodologically, the study was developed from a qualitative approach with an ethnographic orientation, through the application of a four-question survey to three people from the community, which made it possible to collect perceptions about the violation of women’s rights. The results showed that the participants recognized some violations related to gender equality, the right to work, freedom of expression, and labor and economic inequality; however, conceptual gaps and a lack of knowledge about the scope of women’s rights were also identified. In conclusion, the study indicates that, although the Political Constitution of Colombia recognizes equality before the law and equal rights between men and women, in practice, forms of discrimination, violence, and lack of protection persist, affecting the social, family, economic, and political lives of Colombian women. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen rights-based education, social awareness, and State responsibility
