Turnitin tool

The journal Humanities, Technology and Education (HUTECEDU) promotes originality, academic ethics, and good research practices in all its publications. To ensure high standards of scientific quality, the journal uses Turnitin to verify the similarity of submitted manuscripts.

1. Purpose of Similarity Verification

The purpose of using Turnitin is to ensure that submitted manuscripts are original and that their content does not contain inappropriate levels of similarity with other academic, scientific, or documentary sources.

The maximum similarity percentage accepted by the journal is 17%. This criterion helps preserve the authenticity, academic integrity, and original contribution of each manuscript submitted for evaluation.

2. Recommendations for Authors

  • Prior Manuscript Review: Before submission, authors should carefully review their manuscript and ensure that all citations, references, and consulted sources are properly acknowledged.
  • Understanding the Similarity Index: Similarities may result from direct quotations, paraphrasing, commonly used expressions, or previously published works. Therefore, it is essential to provide proper attribution to all sources used.
  • Use of Similarity-Checking Tools: Authors are encouraged to use similarity-checking software or available text-processing tools to conduct a preliminary assessment before submission.
  • Controlling the Similarity Percentage: Authors should ensure that the similarity percentage does not exceed the limit established by the journal. If a preliminary report indicates a higher percentage, the manuscript should be revised and corrected before submission.

3. Editorial Evaluation

During the editorial process, all manuscripts will be screened using Turnitin. The reports generated will be reviewed by the Editorial Committee to determine the nature of the detected similarities.

Manuscripts presenting a similarity percentage higher than 17% may undergo a more detailed review to determine whether the matches correspond to legitimate citations, referencing errors, or other situations requiring correction by the authors.

4. Commitment to Academic Integrity

The active collaboration of authors in controlling similarity levels is essential to preserving the scientific quality, transparency, and academic integrity of the journal. Compliance with these recommendations strengthens the originality and scholarly value of published works.

Important Note: A similarity percentage higher than 17% does not automatically result in the rejection of a manuscript. However, authors may be required to justify and correct the identified similarities when requested by the Editorial Committee.

Turnitin is a support tool for originality verification and plagiarism prevention. Its results should be interpreted as an academic control mechanism and not as a direct indicator of the scientific quality of the work.

The journal appreciates the cooperation of authors throughout this process. For any questions regarding similarity verification or editorial policies, please contact the Editorial Team through the institutional email: revista.humanidades@unipamplona.edu.co.
