Effects of Intermittent and Interval Methods on VO2 Max in Fencers from Antioquia

Objective: To compare the effects of two endurance training plans, using intermittent and interval methods, over 4 weeks with 4 sessions per week, on VO2 Max in fencers from Antioquia, calculated indirectly using the Leger test.
Method: A total of 9 athletes (5 men and 4 women) participated in this study. The sample was divided into 2 experimental groups (G1 and G2) and 1 control group. The training plan consisted of an aerobic intervention lasting 20 minutes; both groups completed 4 sessions per week for 4 weeks.
Results: No statistically significant differences were observed between those who performed the intermittent or interval methods, but there was a trend toward improvement in the intermittent group, while all values in the interval group remained stable.
Conclusions: In the development of concentrated blocks for endurance training during the competitive period, it is appropriate to train athletes using either intermittent or interval methods, as both will maintain or improve VO2 Max.
