Underground mining operations not only generate impacts on the external environment; they also create environmental problems underground, which are due to the different stages and needs in mineral exploitation. Through the application of the concept of Underground Environmental Engineering (Torres & Da Gama, 2005), a methodology is proposed for the evaluation of comfort and environmental quality in underground coal mines, aimed at ensuring safety and improving the underground environment.
